TINY DOORS' SYNOPSIS
Thomas and Violet (30s-40s modern, married 2007 couple) are driving along tranquil Kentucky
roads, deep into the mountains. They pull off the two-lane road and park. Thomas and Violet take
in the peaceful terrain and then begin to gather their gear. Leaving their car behind, the two head
into the woods. Violet isn’t into camping. Thomas is recording, playing with his new iPhone.
Violet scolds him. She’s more interested in enjoying nature, naturally. Thomas and Violet continue
hiking. There’s tension, but they’re having fun. Thomas comes upon a small door built into a rock.
It doesn't open. He goes to get Violet to show her, but now he can’t find his way back to the door.
Violet chalks this up to his weird sense of humor. They move on.
Thomas and Violet make it to the campsite and get settled in. Violet focuses on getting the tent
together, and supplies in place. Thomas is trying to find the perfect spot for his time-lapse. He
returns and scares her. After some arguing, they get situated and spend the night by the fire.
Thomas finally settles down. They have a peaceful, almost romantic fire, until Thomas falls into a
trance, causing visions. This wakes up a sleepy Violet. They go to bed.
They end up hooking up instead of sleeping. After a while, time speeds up. The skies shift. The
tent remains still. In an instant, a squirrel pokes its head in front of the lens. Thomas wakes up and
goes pee. Violet awakens to find Thomas gone. She gets out to see he’s made coffee and breakfast.
They fight over Thomas bringing more alcohol than food. Violet prepares to lay by the lake.
Thomas joins. Violet reads by the lake as Thomas jumps off large rocks into the water. Thomas is
floating in the water. As he floats, something pulls him under all of a sudden. Violet sees this but
questions what she's seeing. When she waits too long, she begins to panic and runs toward the
water as Thomas finally comes up, coughing up a storm. He stumbles to shore. Violet suggests
they go back. Both are unsure what just happened and how to respond properly. As she leaves,
something keeps Thomas back. He looks out into the water. Nothing.
trance, causing visions. This wakes up a sleepy Violet. They go to bed.
The two return to camp. They’re unsure what just happened, but they’re beat. They make dinner
and then head to bed. While sleeping, time speeds up. A door appears near their tent. Pounding
sounds can be heard. This wakes up Thomas. Thomas screams and wakes Violet up.
Violet is prepping lunch as Thomas sits at the picnic table, zoned out. Thomas spots a larger door
across from him. This puts him in a trance and he begins to walk toward it, through the fire. As
Violet sees him step into the fire, she tackles him out of the way. This causes a fight. Violet
demands they leave. Thomas snaps out of it and pleads he’s back to normal, begging to stay.
Violet gives in.
Violet is reading by the lake, again. Thomas is swimming, or more so just flfloating. Violet is
worried, but confused by his actions. Later, Thomas is sitting by the fire. Violet surprises him with
a game of stickball. The two play and this wakes the two up, relationship wise.
It’s nighttime. The two are in their tent, enjoying each other's company. Later in the night, Violet
is fast asleep while Thomas can’t sleep. He begins to hear whispers in the night. It buzzes in his
ears. It gets louder and louder. Violet wakes up to find a compulsing and screaming Thomas.
Violet freaks and tries to wake him. She looks around to find a demonic and bloody version of
herself. Thomas is gone. She cowers in the back of the tent with fear. She then wakes up.
Violet and Thomas are hiking. They're trying to have a conversation. Violet brings up a friend at
work, and this triggers Thomas. He gets defensive. The two fight. Thomas implies Violet is
cheating on him with this work friend. Violet leaves Thomas to hike alone. Thomas goes off on his
own, leading back to the lake. Thomas walks around, almost tripping on something. He finds a
doorknob in the dirt. Thomas starts to uncover the doorknob and sees it's a full door. He uncovers
the door and then opens it. It's a grave size hole. Something pushes Thomas in. Looking back up,
Thomas sees silhouettes in the sunlight. They shut the door on him. Thomas can't get out. He
begins to pound and pound. Scream and scream. Nothing. As Thomas begins to hyperventilate, he
passes out.
Thomas wakes up in a sweat. He's now in bed. Violet is fast asleep. Thomas goes to pee. He spots
a door. Thomas goes up to it and thinks about it. He goes to turn the doorknob, but it's locked. He
starts pounding on it. A click. He opens the door, revealing blackness. Thomas slams the door shut
and quickly grabs an ax. He attacks the door with all his strength. Violet screams from afar.
Thomas turns to her. Thomas then turns back. The door is gone. There is no ax.
Violet watches the time-lapse, concerned. She just sees Thomas trying to open a door and then
attacking it. In the video, there is no door and no ax. Thomas comes in hot, ready to hike, and
excited to go. Shocked, Violet puts the phone away and quickly gets ready. Thomas leads the way,
making it hard for Violet to keep up. Thomas is ecstatic but almost in a different world. They
reach the peak. Violet is out of breath and unsure of what’s gotten into Thomas. Thomas is taken
by the view. He turns to see Violet, but a figure stands behind Violet from afar. This causes
Thomas’s face to drop. Violet, unsure, turns to look. Nothing. Thomas faints.
Thomas wakes up. They’re still on the peak. Violet is holding him. They chalk it up to
dehydration. They head back to camp. The two are sleeping in their tent. Thomas goes out again to
pee. He spots the door in the woods, this time it’s wide open and off-camera. Thomas goes to
check it out. A willowy woman with a vintage circus outfit walks out, almost dancing, floating.
She moves around Thomas like the wind, putting him in a trance. She leads him back into sight of
the wide camera. The two move together, as one. Flowing in the wind. Joining souls. They fall to
the ground. She gets on top and he goes along, still in a trance.
Violet checks out the footage again. She sees Thomas with a woman hooking up. The woman
looks like a normal hiker. Thomas wakes up. Violet demands to know who this woman is. Thomas
is more upset that he has no idea what is going on. He doesn't remember getting up or what he's
watching. Violet doesn’t believe him. She goes on a hike, alone. Violet walks along the beaten
path. She finds a small door. It opens to nothing. Violet keeps hiking. Finds more doors. Opens to
nothing. She gets an idea, almost like something calls to her. She steps off the beaten path a few
feet, following it.
Violet returns to the campsite. Thomas is gone. Violet screams for Thomas and goes into the
woods. Yelling. Searching. Thomas is frantically looking for the door. Violet comes upon him in a
manic state. She slaps him out of it. That'll be okay. They head back to camp.
Another time-lapse. The door appears again. This time we slow it down to normal speed here. We
cut to Violet in the tent. She’s started recording, opening the flap in her tent to watch the door
open in front of her. A new circus-like figure comes out. This time, she’s followed by a score of
people in similar circus outfits, all dancing out into the forest. Violet tries to wake Thomas. He’s
out cold. She thinks, then slips her boots on and rushes out into the night.
Violet tries to keep her phone steady as she follows the distant music in front of her. It grows
louder as she comes upon a clearing, like a circle surrounded by trees. She hides behind one,
carefully filming the group of fairies in white, loose clothing, dancing strangely about, like a
Maypole dance. They’re jumping around with reckless abandon, to the beat of the strange folk
song. Violet holds her breath.
She sees the woman from the night before slip away. She tries to zoom in but she can’t see her in
the dark. Suddenly she turns, and the woman is right in front of her, staring right at her with
inhumanly large eyes and a mysterious smile. She holds a hand out to her. At first, she’s too
frightened to respond, but eventually, she stands with her and joins the dance. The footage
becomes indistinct as she spins faster and faster with the group.
Back at the campsite, Thomas is still fast asleep in his tent. The time-lapse is still going, but we’re
still watching in real-time as the dancers return. The door opens for them as they walk back into
their strange realm. At the end of the line, the woman pulls Violet along with her, blissfully lost in
the dance. They strut in as the door closes behind them.
Same shot, but the door is gone. Thomas steps out of bed, stretching, dopily unaware. He looks
around for Violet but shrugs and chooses to take a look at his camera instead. Thomas flips out.
Trying to find where Violet went in the spot where she was last standing.
Thomas stays up late to fifind the fairies. He slowly starts to doze off while holding a flflashlight on
the lookout. Thomas wakes up to music. He follows the music. He finds a ritual of fairies circling
a mysterious creature. As he gets closer, he sees it's Violet. She's sprawled out on a bed of hay.
Umbilical cords connect her to strange moving sacks. Almost like she's feeding her blood to them.
Violet is going in and out of consciousness. A fairy spots Thomas and begins chasing him through
the woods. Thomas sees the road with cars passing, but before he gets there, he trips. The fairy
gets him, dragging him quickly into the woods.
A fairy approaches Thomas, making him a strange blood-like drink. This causes his belly to grow
large. Pregnant almost. Soon after, Thomas begins to contract and push. Fairies circle him until he
gives birth to a bloody red sack. The fairy takes the sack and connects the umbilical cord to
Violet as she begins to feed it like the others. Thomas apologizes to Violet for cheating. That he
didn't want to go out this way. He musters up enough energy to stand up. Fairies circle him. With
whatever strength he has left, Thomas attacks the fairies and tries to escape. A fairy quickly kicks
Thomas down and smashes his head in with a staff. The fairies return to their ritual.
